Ingredients
1 two pound panettone (Madi), cut into 1 inch cubes
2 ½ cups whole milk
1 ½ cups half and half
6 eggs
1 cup of sugar
butter for greasing the baking pan
pinch of salt
serve with warm maple syrup
Cooking Method
In a large bowl whisk together eggs, milk, half and half, sugar and pinch of salt to create a custard mixture. Set aside.
Grease a 9 x 12 x 2 baking dish with butter. Place panettone cubes in the baking dish.
Pour the custard mixture over the panettone, and lightly push down with your hands or with a fork to help the custard soak in the bread. Let it sit for 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
Bake for about 45 minutes, or until the custard is set (but still a bit wobbly) and edges of bread have browned.
Serve warm or at room temperature along with warm maple syrup.
HELPFUL TIPS
Store bought panettone is such a great way to make this bread pudding since it consists of fragrant candied fruit and raisins. Serve with maple syrup or honey.
